An overarching view of website SEO needs would look like the below.
Whilst most of us have the first base covered, how many have completed the second or third? And if your website isn’t within the top two levels, you may battle to be on the first page of Google.
This may seem daunting, but by taking the correct steps it can be made easier to achieve.
The Basics
Level 1 or E Rated
At level 1 a website should have all of the visible item completed, such as good design, layout, usability and content.
It should also be mobile and tablet friendly and easy for search engines to crawl with site maps and similar.
The Code
Level 2 or D Rated
A good website should have correct and minimal code, minimal Javascript, little or no plugins, very low browser side code and no errors. This naturally all helps in the next stage or Level 3.
See item 2 on this page for further information.
Speed
Level 3 or C Rated
At level 3 you should expect a website speed of 90-100% performance. You can see Google's PageSpeed Insights to run a test.
This tests your website for over one hundred elements such as oversized images, excessive code, server speed, general accessibility and many others. These recommendations take priority over any other any commercial SEO tool available.
Search Friendly
Level 4 or B Rated
There are many search engine and accessibility tags and a good website will have all of these present.
Accessibility
Level 5 or A Rated
The best websites will have W3C WCAG Level A, AA or higher. There are many web standards available, however the greatest of them all is the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), which has developed web standards such as WCAG since 1994 and was founded by Sir Tim Berners-Lee, the inventor of the World Wide Web.
